Medicare update

Your 2027 ANOC Is Due Soon—Read It Before Open Enrollment Starts

Plans must explain January 2027 changes by September 30. Annual Enrollment runs October 15 through December 7.

If you have Medicare Advantage or a stand-alone Part D prescription plan, your carrier must send an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) by September 30. The notice describes how that plan will work starting January 1, 2027—premiums, cost-sharing, drug coverage, provider networks, and many extra benefits.

Keeping the same plan ID is not the same as keeping the same deal. A familiar premium can hide higher specialist copays, formulary changes, or doctors leaving the network. That is why the ANOC belongs on your kitchen counter, not in the recycling bin, whether you live in Idaho, Oregon, Texas, Washington, or anywhere else your plan is offered.

If you have not received it yet

  • Check email and the plan’s member portal if you chose paperless delivery.
  • Call the customer service number on your member ID card and ask for the 2027 ANOC.
  • Confirm your mailing address is current—late September mail can still arrive in early October, but you want time to compare before enrollment opens.

Four-part checklist

  • Premium and deductibles. Note any change to the plan premium. Part B is billed separately through Medicare.
  • Out-of-pocket maximum. For Advantage plans, see whether your cap on in-network spending moves up or down.
  • Your medications. Match each prescription to next year’s formulary tier and any new prior-authorization rules.
  • Your doctors and hospital. Verify primary care, specialists, and the facility you would use are still in network for 2027.

Add pharmacy preferences and extra benefits (dental, vision, OTC allowances) if those matter to your budget. Small benefit cuts are common when plans re-bid for the new contract year.

What happens next

Annual Enrollment Period: October 15–December 7, 2026, for most Medicare Advantage and Part D changes effective January 1, 2027. If the ANOC shows your plan still fits, you may keep it. If not, compare options on Medicare.gov Plan Finder or ask for help before the deadline.
